What is Piracy?
Piracy, according to merriam-webster dictionary, is the unauthorized use of another’s production, invention, or conception especially in infringement of a copyright.

What about piracy in a musical setting?
Piracy, in a musical setting, is illegally accessing or using an artist’s music without the artist’s or their record label’s consent. This has been a rampant issue that has been ongoing for decades in the music industry even with a law against copyright infringement.
Examples of music piracy
There are many examples of music piracy, but the one that’s been well heard of is the illegal downloading of music. Downloading copyrighted music off of illegal websites and then distributing or selling it without the knowledge and consent from the artist or the artist’s record label violates the copyright infringement law.
Piracy discourages creativity. By pirating music, we disrespect artists and disregard what it took them to make that song. It also discourages the artists themselves to ultimately stop creating music, especially indie artists, causing a decline in the creation of new and original music.
