Musical parodies is defined as “the creative reworking of several voice parts of a preexistent composition to form a new composition, frequently a mass; in modern musical usage, parody usually refers to the humorous imitation of a serious composition” (The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2023).” Musical parodies are a great platform for creativity and expression as they are fun and lighthearted and allow people to express themselves and their voice.

Examples of musical parodies

Some Filipino examples of these are  “Waiting here sa pila” by GMA’s bubble gang or  “Balikbayan Box” by Mikey Bustos. While they can serve as a great way for entertainment, we can’t overlook the potential ethical and legal issues that musical parodies presents. This signifies the importance of having permission and consent from the original artist to avoid violating copyright infringement laws.
