Music leak refers to music being distributed to the public without authorization.

Does unreleased music fall under copyright protection? 

Unreleased music is still under copyright protection because copyright takes effect the moment it was made not when it was released .

Examples of music leaks

  • A snippet of "Fantasize" by Ariana Grande was leaked on June 21, 2023

  • Taylor Swift's new album Tortured Poets Department was leaked through a Google Drive link containing 17 tracks from her album.

  • Kanye West filed a lawsuit against an unknown Instagram user in 2023 for leaking various Ye tracks between March and August 2023.
