What is interpolation?
Interpolation is taking a part of an already existing musical work and integrating it into a new work. Unlike sampling, interpolation does not use any audio sounds in an existing recording. Instead, it is used to record new music.
Examples of interpolation
• Nas’s “I Can” interpolates Beethoven’s “Für Elise”
• Flo Rida’s “Right Round” interpolates Dead or Alive’s “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)”
• Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” interpolates Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “My Favorite Things”
